LOUIS VAN GAAL PLANS TO AVENGE 2014/2015 HOME & AWAY DEFEATS WITH HIS 50TH GAME IN CHARGE AS MANCHESTER UNITED MANAGER.

Louis van Gaal saw his side drop six points to Swansea last year

Van Gaal saw his side slump to a 2-1 opening-day defeat at Old Trafford in his first game as United boss last year, before the Swans beat the Red Devils by the same scoreline at home in February. Garry Monk's side were the only team to take six points from United last season and Van Gaal is desperate to see an improvement from United in Sunday's meeting against Swansea.

He said: "The first match I played was against Swansea. We lost and now I have to play them in my 50th match.

"I hope we can show our fans that we have improved because that is the main thing. Last year we lost all the points only against Swansea and I always want the improvement of my team and my players so I hope we can show that.

"I don't want to lose again. It's the only club we could not beat or gain one point against, I hope we can improve and that we can show that we are better than last year.

"It will be difficult but we are better prepared than this time last year."

Marouane Fellaini is available to play his first Premier League game this term after serving a suspension following his red card against Hull but Adnan Januzaj will miss out due to an injury sustained in midweek, van Gaal confirmed.

Van Gaal could be tempted to start Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera who made a lively contribution and scored a goal in the 4-0 Champions League qualifying win at Club Brugge on Wednesday.

Herrera scored one and set up another after moving further forward and playing behind United skipper Wayne Rooney in the second half in Belgium.

"I had a theoretical scheme in my head that he could play at No. 10 and he did it well against Brugge." van Gaal said.

The Dutchman was also asked about the future of goalkeeper Victor Valdes after Sky Sports reported United had agreed terms with Turkish side Besiktas for the transfer of the former Barcelona stopper.

"When we want to say anything then we say it but not at the moment you want to ask it," van Gaal replied.

"We shall do announcements when we want to do it not when you want an answer."
