Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been told by his agent to spend a further two seasons at Old Trafford before moving to Real Madrid, as per Goal
It is understood that the player’s representatives believe that the Premier League offers the ideal environment for a young player to fully develop his potential, as reported by Goal.
But the Spain international is keen on a move back to Madrid as it would allow him to be closer to family and friends, the source reports.
It is understood by Goal, that he has thus far refused to commit to Old Trafford and wants to push through a transfer to Real Madrid and follow in the foot-steps of former Red Devils stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruud van Nistelrooy and David Beckham.
The Spanish international is out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of next season and United risk losing him on a free transfer. The Red Devils are eager for him to sign a new big money contract, as per Goal too.
While the same report from Goal also reveals that Jorge Mendes is De Gea’s agent, meaning the super-agent advised the Spain international to stay at Old Trafford for the next two campaigns.
And with Madrid keen on finding a long-term replacement for veteran keeper Iker Casillas they have identified the United star as their number one choice with newly-installed boss Rafael Benitez keen on pushing a deal through for De Gea, as per Goal.
The 24-year-old was United’s standout performer this season and won the club’s fan vote for Player of the Year as well as being nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award which he lost out to Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.
His performances inevitably caught the attentions of Real Madrid and it remains to be seen if this situation can be resolved quickly or will it get blown out into one of the longest running transfer stories of the summer.
