Arsene Wenger: Arsenal would be better off in the EUROPA LEAGUE
Arsene Wenger has astonishingly claimed Arsenal would be better off in the Europa League
Arsenal crashed out of the Champions League last night despite beating Monaco 2-0 in Monte Carlo.
The Gunners were expected to progress to the quarter-finals after drawing the French giants, but could not reverse the deficit after being stunned 3-1 at the Emirates in the first leg.
It is the fifth successive season that Arsenal have exited Europe's elite club competition at the second-round stage, having previously been dumped out by Bayern Munich (twice), AC Milan and Barcelona.
And when asked whether he was unhappy with Arsenal's repeated last-16 failings in the Champions League, Wenger made a remarkable admission.
"Yes, but sometimes we have been beaten by opponents who were in the final," he said.
"Perhaps it would be better not to go out like this and make the Europa League, we would be more likely to win."
