Aston Villa star Fabian Delph reveals FA Cup win was sealed with a KISS
FABIAN DELPH has revealed how his Aston Villa FA Cup heroics were actually sealed with a KISS
The England midfielder initially feared he might come to harm as it took him six minutes to get off the pitch.
Villa's 2-0 win over local rivals West Brom sparked two pitch invasions and the club seems certain to face a massive fine after thousands spilled onto the pitch.
But Delph played down initial claims that he had been bitten and says he was in danger of being loved to death by delighted Villa supporters.
Immediately after scoring in the win which clinched a Wembley date in the semi-finals he said: "It was dangerous. Very scary."
Delph set Villa on the way to a Wembley semi-final appearance with the opening goal and Scott Sinclair wrapped it up with a second five minutes from time.
But that sparked a mini-invasion which caused the game to be held up followed by the full blown more disturbing scenes at the end.
Delph said: "It wasn't a bite it was a kiss! I think whoever kissed me came in a bit strong.
"It's probably to be expected - they were excited with the game and so who ever bit me, thanks!
"I wasn't worried at all, no. The fans love me and I love them. I was jumping about with them.
"I haven't got a clue about how the West Brom players felt. I wasn't thinking about them.
"I just wanted to get off the pitch and go and scream in the changing room."
Delph added: "It took me about six minutes to get off. It was obviously a big thing for the fans. They've had a lot of frustration over the years.
"So obviously it was great to do it for them because they were fantastic in our win over West Brom on Tuesday night.
"We carried it through to this game and they've pushed us through.Fair play to them and it's nice to see them happy.
The midfielder said there was a confidence in the Villa camp that they were not going to be denied.
"Every time we play we try to play for the fans. Today was a big chance to get to Wembley and today there was no way we weren't going to do it."
And the Bradford-born 26-year-old admits he'd love the draw to pair Villa up with The Bantams.
He added: "We're taking things game by game and not looking too far ahead but I'd love to draw Bradford.
"I was born in Bradford but I'm a Leeds fan. Hopefully they will get through and we get them."
Villa fans and players still have painful memories of the shock Capitla One Cup humiliation at the hands of Bradford last season.
Delph added: "It's not so much a case of revenge but with a big pitch and our young players, I'd enjoy playing them."
