Chelsea outcast Mohamed Salah continues his sparkling form with wonder goal against Juventus
What began as an ordinary Coppa Italia semifinals first-leg matchup between Juventus and Fiorentina, ended as “The Mohamed Salah Show,” as the 22-year-old Egyptian attacker stole the show with a pair of goals, leading Fiorentina to an unexpected 2-1 victory at Juventus Stadium
Salah’s first goal capped off a spectacular 60-yard dribble in which he nutmegged a defender near midfield and raced past the last man back before rifling a left-footed shot from 12 yards out, beating Marco Storari with a world of power and pinpoint placement.
Salah’s second goal came after Joaquin won the ball just outside Juve’s penalty area, leaving Salah to pounce on it. A couple of touches later, he was back inside the area, took his time in opening up his hips and carefully placing a low, left-footed shot to the far post.
“He’s in a state of grace, and hopefully he can continue,” Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella said of Salah after the game.
Fernandro Llorente had put Juve back on level terms with a powerfully headed goal in the 24th minute, following Salah’s opener. The second leg of the semifinal tie will be played Tuesday, April 7 at Stadio Artemio Franchi.
