Danny Mills feels Mesut Ozil should have made way for Arsenal after the first half
Arsenal came close, but not close enough as they exited the Champions League on away goals.
They beat Monaco 2-0 away from home, but they were eliminated from the competition as a result of the 3-1 first leg loss.
Aaron Ramsey scored their second of the night, a substitute after 62 minutes, on for defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin. The Welshman was a real threat, managing 53 touches in just half an hour, as well as scoring.
BBC Pundit Danny Mills told 5 Live at half-time that he wanted to see Ramsey introduced sooner, at the expense of Mesut Ozil.
He said: "Apart from the first 10 minutes when they looked a little nervous, Arsenal have played exceptionally well. I might bring Ramsey on for Ozil, allowing Cazorla to push on, have a free role and have an influence on this game."
He was backed by ITV pundit Paul Scholes, who said of Ozil: "I thought he was quite poor, and I'd look to bring Ramsey on at half-time."
Ozil may not have had a game-changing moment, but the decision to take off Coquelin seemed to be the right one in the circumstances. Arsenal needed players to create chances, and were not negatively affected on the night by withdrawing the more defensive player.
The German international had a huge 126 touches of the ball, completing 85 per cent of his passes, although did only manage to carve out two goalscoring opportunities.
He came close from a free-kick, but also had one shot which he fired wide when he really should have tested the goalkeeper. Ozil worked tirelessly to the end, chasing down Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco when through on goal in injury time, and Wenger deservedly kept faith in him on this occasion.
