David Luiz apologises to Chelsea fans for goal celebration
David Luiz issued an apology to Chelsea fans for celebrating his goal at Stamford Bridge as 10-man Paris Saint-Germain dumped the Blues out of the Champions League
With the aggregate score level at 1-1 heading into Wednesday’s clash, PSG’s task became harder when Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sent off for a rash challenge on Oscar in the 31st minute.
Chelsea took the lead when Gary Cahill fired home from close range in the 81st minute, but Luiz returned to haunt his former employers when he headed home from a corner three minutes later to force extra-time.
Eden Hazard gave the Blues the lead again from the penalty spot after Thiago Silva’s handball, but the Brazilian made amends by heading in from a corner in the 114th minute to send PSG through on away goals after a 3-3 draw on aggregate.
Luiz, who swapped Chelsea for the Ligue 1 outfit after being deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge last summer, admitted that emotions got the better of him after scoring.
He told Sky Sports: “I respect everyone. Tonight was good for me to score. I said before I wouldn’t celebrate but my emotions I couldn’t control.
“Thank you to Chelsea because they always support me a lot, and sorry I celebrated because I was so emotional.
“PSG gave me a great opportunity to continue my career. I was very happy at Chelsea, I won many titles here.”
