Dortmund chief reveals why Hummels wont join Man Utd or Arsenal in the summer

Mats Hummels

Borussia Dortmund chief Michael Zorc says Mats Hummels won't leave this summer because of the club's poor form this season

Hummels has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United at the end of the season, with Louis van Gaal identifying the German international as the perfect player to strengthen his defence.

Arsenal are also keen on the player and Dortmund's dire league form this season gave both sides encouragement that Hummels could be keen to move on.

Dortmund currently sit 10th in the Bundesliga and look almost certain to miss out on Champions League qualification next term.

But far from driving Hummels away, Zorc believes the 26-year-old will be even more determined to stay put and turn the clubs fortunes around.

He told Bild: "Am I afraid that Mats Hummels will leave this summer? No.

"I think the motivation of every player here is to correct what happened in the first part of the season."

Last month former Chelsea boss Ruud Gullit lifted the lid on Van Gaal's Hummels obsession.

He said: The only thing for me that is a surprise is Van Gaal didn't buy any good central defenders - that had to be his priority.

"He was crazy about Hummels and wanted to buy him. So I would have bought Man United some good defenders because that was the weakest link.

"For me, that they did not was a surprise.

"Nevertheless, he gets results. The more results he gets, the more confidence they get and the better they will play."
