Paul Parker has poured cold water on the suggestion that Liverpool could sign Manchester United flop Radamel Falcao in the summer
The Colombia international isn’t expected to stay at the Red Devils beyond the end of the season as the 29-year-old continues to disappoint following his loan move from Monaco last September.
Liverpool have been linked with a surprise swoop for the former Atletico Madrid striker, who has scored four goals and has made four assists in 19 Premier League appearances.
But Parker, who made 105 appearances for the Red Devils during a five-year stay at Old Trafford, claimed that Liverpool aren’t a big enough club to lure a land a huge name like Falcao.
“Nice idea, but [Liverpool] are not quite big enough a club for Falcao; he must be looking for more than that. And being ex-United it’s unlikely the fans would take to him – especially if he did not hit the ground running,” Parker told Yahoo! Sport.
“It is great talk for Liverpool, though: even the suggestion that they can attract players of his quality shows that they are moving forward .
“To be frank, both moves are pipedreams. A move overseas beckons if he does not make the grade at United.”
Louis van Gaal has opted not to start his ailing striker since a 2-0 victory over Sunderland at Old Trafford in February.
