Luis Suarez reveals why playing for Liverpool was easier than for Barcelona

Luis Suarez is happy at Barcelona, but the striker’s recent comments have at least hinted at the fact that he’ll be looking around wistfully when he returns to Anfield on Sunday for the first time since his £75m summer move

The 28-year-old, who scored 31 Premier League goals for Liverpool last season, has only managed eight in 19 La Liga fixtures so far this term, along with an admittedly impressive tally of nine assists. It took the Uruguayan eight games for him to break his duck in the league, and he’s since admitted that he found it difficult to adapt to a change in style and philosophy, as well as playing with Lionel Messi.

In comments picked up by the Liverpool Echo, Suarez also bemoans the restrictions that were placed upon him at the start of the season, when he wasn’t even able to train with his new teammates following his much-publicised bite on Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.

Suarez, who was speaking ahead of this weekend’s Anfield charity match, said: “A lock is one thing. But not to be allowed to train at times, as in the beginning, which is a treatment worse than when I was a hooligan.”

However, it was his comparison of Barcelona and Liverpool which was most interesting, with the striker appearing to admit that he preferred playing for the Reds.

He revealed: “It was getting used to it [Barca] for me. I have less space than ever for my game, which makes it more difficult than in Liverpool for me. Barca’s style of play was for me a whole new world.”
