Lukas Podolski voted one of Serie A's WORST signings as Arsenal loanee struggles at Inter

Lukas Podolski been voted one of Italy's worst January signings in a poll conducted by Italy's biggest sports newspaper

Gazzetta dello Sport had the German forward in second place on 36%, trailing Milan signing Alessio Cerci (46%) as the biggest waste of money.

Seydou Doumbia was way back in third on 9% behind Podolski - who still belongs to Arsenal.

The Gunners will have to make a decision on his future this summer if Inter Milan decide not to take up the option to buy him permanently. And all the indications, based on his performances so far in a Nerazzurri shirt, are that there is no reason the San Siro club would try to keep him.

Roberto Mancini - renowned for his straight-talking - didn't mince his words when considering Podolski's performance in Sunday's defeat against Fiorentina, when he was hauled off after an hour for the superior Xherdan Shaqiri.

"Seeing how Shaqiri played, which effectively changed the game, I regret not playing him from the start," said Mancini in his press conference.

"Podolski? Obviously he is someone who must give more, and we are sure that he can give us more.

"Because at the moment, it's not enough."

But while Mancini managed to find an encouraging spin, imploring the player to show his quality, the Italian press was not so kind.

"Podolski," screamed the headline in Gazzetta, "turnovers and zero shots: With him, Inter are playing with ten men."

With billionaire owner Erick Thohir hinting at a willing to splash the cash on big names when the time comes, it casts serious doubts over the Arsenal man's chances of earning a permanent deal in Italy.

Podolski's deal at the Emirates runs until summer 2016 unless Inter choose to take up their £5million option this summer, which leaves one question.

What should Arsene Wenger do with the German this summer if Mancini opts against keeping Lukas Podolski?
