Martin Keown believes that Arsenal currently have eight players who all play in the same position
Former Arsenal defender and current pundit, Martin Keown believes the Gunners have at least seven or eight players who can all play in the the number 10 role, as per The Daily Mail
Following Arsenal’s elimination from the Champions League on Tuesday night to Monaco on away goals, Keown has been sharing his thoughts on some of the difficulties that Arsenal are currently facing in their squad.
One of the things that Keown has noticed is that Arsene Wenger’s team currently possess an abundance of attacking midfield players who can all play in the number 10/ supporting striker role: “There are seven or eight midfielders who could play in the No 10 role,” said Keown told the Daily Mail.
“The real problem is, if he wants to play two sitting midfield players he hasn’t really got them at the moment. That’s what is crucial to the side – a top class sitting midfielder.
“Spending big money on a goalkeeper might help as well. If the other compartments of the team don’t need that investment, Wenger might take another goalkeeper.”
The likes of Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Alexis Sanchez, Tomas Rosicky, Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott can all play in that position and that doesn’t even take into consideration Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell, who are currently out on loan at Inter Milan and Villarreal respectively.
Arsenal have begun to show signs of promise in the league and are unbeaten in five games, sitting just seven points behind first placed Chelsea. The Gunners have created 353 chances this term and scored 56 goals.
