Mascherano told Barca keeper how to stop Aguero's penalty

Barcelona's Javier Mascherano put club over country when he told Marc-Andre ter Stegen that Sergio Aguero was going to shoot his penalty to the left

Barcelona defensive midfielder Javier Mascherano put club over country in Wednesday evening's Champions League win over Manchester City, as the Argentine told goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen that Sergio Aguero was going to shoot his penalty to the left.

In the 77th minute, with the score at 1-0, Sergio Aguero stepped up to take a penalty that would put them even in the game and give City a new lease on life in the Champions League.

However, what he wasn't expecting was that his own countryman would betray him as Javier Mascherano crept behind Aguero and signaled to goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen that Kun's shot would be going to the left.

As Aguero ran up and shot the ball, ter Stegen dived to the left and stopped the shot, and was immediately greeted and embraced by Mascherano.

Following the match, Mascherano stated that he knew Aguero was going to shoot the ball in that direction and that ter Stegen's stop only served as a means of confirming his prediction.
