Radamel Falcao: I should have joined Liverpool instead of Man Utd

Radamel Falcao struggled for the Manchester United Under-21 side against Tottenham

Radamel Falcao is expecting to leave Manchester United in the summer and accepts he joined the wrong club, according to reports

The Colombian striker has failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford since arriving in a £6m loan deal from Monaco.

The 29-year-old has scored just four times in 20 appearances and was made to play for the Under-21 side on Tuesday night but he once again failed to find the back of the net.

United can make his move permanent in the summer for £43m but Falcao is reportedly not expecting to be at Old Trafford next season.

The Daily Mail, citing sources close to the player, claim he is convinced he joined the wrong club.

Liverpool were thought to be prepared to pay Falcao's huge loan fee and £265,000-a-week wages last summer but the move broke down when United swooped for the player.

Falcao was one of the most feared strikers in the world when at Atletico Madrid, where he scored 52 goals in 68 league appearances.

But he has looked a shadow of his former self at United following the serious knee injury he suffered last season which ruled him out of the World Cup.

It is claimed he was left in 'total shock' at being told to play for the Under-21s against Tottenham on Tuesday, just 24 hours after being an unused substitute in the FA Cup quarter-final loss to Arsenal.

And Falcao reportedly believes he is not highly-rated by Louis van Gaal and that he was only signed because United had missed out on other targets.

Falcao's agent Jorge Mendes has previously defended his player, claiming he could become a Manchester United champion and insists he will still be wanted by great teams if Van Gaal does not sign him permanently.

He said: "He was not wrong in choosing Monaco. He is a champion.

"I know if [United] give Falcao five whole games he will score in almost every one of them.

"If Falcao does not stay at Manchester, he will be at one of the other five or six best teams in the world."
