Roy Hodgson is urged to reward QPR's Charlie Austin with an England call-up
Roy Hodgson has been urged to reward Charlie Austin's goalscoring heroics with an England call-up
Austin's QPR team-mate Bobby Zamora believes the 15-goal striker must be selected to face Lithuania and Italy.
Zamora, who was capped twice by England himself, is convinced Austin deserves his chance and insists he'd be a smash hit.
The QPR striker said: "I've got my fingers crossed he can get in that England squad. I can't say enough about him.
"He's been the top-scoring English player in the Premier League for most of the season.
"He's got the lot. He scores all sorts of goals, not just long-distance ones but tap-ins, headers. You name it. And he puts a shift in.
"It would be a shame if he is overlooked. Those things can happen when you're not one of the big clubs. But it's a no-brainer for me."
Hodgson has run the rule over Austin several times in recent weeks and is weighing up whether to hand him his first call-up.
Harry Kane is the only English striker to score more goals in the Premier League this season than Austin.
But that could just tip the scales in the Tottenham man's favour because there is limited room for newcomers in the squad.
