Toby Alderweireld is from Antwerp, he played for Ajax in Amsterdam for several years and then moved to Atletico Madrid
The Belgian international has had the pleasure of living in some of Europe's most highly regarded cities. Therefore it perhaps shouldn't be any shock that he's found Southampton to be a bit on the boring side.
Southampton fans will rightly point out the merits of their home and there are many but the city is best known for its exit routes by sea.
Alderweireld has been speaking to the Belgian press about his future yet again and said it would be nice to link up with Jan Vertonghen at Tottenham Hotspur. He didn't hint he was moving to Spurs or any of the other beefed up claims in the British press, but he was looser with his words than he perhaps should have been.
Another Belgian newspaper, Het Belang van Limburg, have quoted the player saying he's not too impressed with the city he currently lives in and when he wants a bit more he heads into London "Southampton isn't the most exciting city, but if I want to look up the crowds, then I go to London."
Alderweireld again talked about an exit being open in the summer but also about Southampton's fight for a European place "We're doing unexpectedly good at Southampton and even still fight along for a European ticket. It is not easy against the top teams in England to put the heat on, but we try to put them under pressure."
