Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has revealed the reason why he handed Andreas Pereira a new contract at Old Trafford
Pereira, 19, signed a new three-year deal with the Red Devils earlier today.
The Belgian, who joined United in 2011, was linked with a move to French champions Paris St-Germain.
However, he has turned down a switch to Paris in order to force his way into Louis van Gaal's plans.
Speaking after the announcement of the deal, Van Gaal - who took over United last May - hailed the midfielder and claimed he handed the youngster a new contract because he has 'all the attributes to become an integral part of the team'.
"I am delighted that Andreas has signed a new contract," the former Bayern Munich boss said.
"Andreas has all the attributes to become an integral part of the first team; great natural talent coupled with a good appetite to learn.
"I am pleased with his progression so far this season and look forward to working with him to develop his talent even further.”
