Ian Wright defends Jack Wilshere over Tottenham taunts

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has defended Jack Wilshere for his behaviour during the FA Cup bus parade celebrations after he led a rather explicit anti-Tottenham Hotspur chant, The Sun reports

The Gunners topped off another successful campaign with a wonderful 4-0 FA Cup victory over Aston Villa on Saturday, their second consecutive Wembley triumph.

The club’s players and staff subsequently celebrated their feat with an open-top bus parade in North London, a memorable afternoon which soon sparked controversy amid Wilshere’s exuberant antics.

The England international took to the microphone outside the Emirates stadium and led the popular "What do you think of Tottenham?” chant, much to the delight of the Gunners supporters.

His actions predictably caused quite a stir afterwards, though amid heavy criticism from pundits and observers alike Wilshere does have a backer in Arsenal hero Ian Wright.

“I have absolutely no problem with what Jack did on the bus during Arsenal’s FA Cup parade on Sunday,” the former Gunners all-time top scorer stated in The Sun.

“If you had plucked any one of those supporters who was cheering the team in Islington and put them on the bus, they would have behaved the same way.

“That is why Arsenal fans love Jack. They can relate to him. He is one of them, a normal lad, not a boring robot. He is also one of this country’s best midfielders and a nice guy.”

Wilshere was also criticised for drinking beer in public, especially considering he is to meet up with the England national team for their upcoming matches in the next couple of weeks.

However, if his performances on the pitch remain to the required standard both at the Emirates and on the international scene, surely a few incidents of this manner won’t harm his chances of success.
