Chelsea attacker Eden Hazard has said that the greatest advice he’s ever received came from Dutch striker Patrick Kluivert.
Speaking in a question and answer session with the club’s website, Hazard credited Kluivert with having a big impact on his career when the pair were at Lille.
He said: “I remember the first time I met Patrick Kluivert and shook his hand. I played with him at Lille. He said, ‘Yeah, you’re young, you have good quality, but work. You have to work. Every day you have to work if you want to be one of the best.
“I remember that very well.”
Hazard’s star was very much on the rise at Lille, where there had been a buzz about his talent since he received his debut at the tender age of 16.
Meanwhile, Kluivert was also at the French club and his career was winding down.
A success at Ajax and Barcelona, Kluivert had a series of forgettable spells around top clubs in Europe after leaving the Catalan giants in 2004.
He spent the last season of his career at Lille, scoring four goals in 14 appearances in all competitions. Clearly the biggest impact he had during his time in France was in the dressing room where he used his experience to guide the younger players and offer them advice.
Hazard is one player who benefited from it. The Belgian has scored 13 goals this season in all competitions.
