A brace from French forward Olivier Giroud earned the Gunners all three points against Newcastle, and the Emirates boss has heaped praise on the French striker
Ask any Arsenal fan whether Arsenal can now be included in the title race and there is a hopeful, but cautious response.
“Stranger things have happened,” was Aaron Ramsey’s cool verdict.
“We need to win every game, and hope Chelsea and Man City do not take every step,” said Olivier Giroud.
Boss Arsene Wenger described Chelsea’s “security” at the summit as being “serene”.
Arsenal’s record in the league since January 11 has been impeccable, having won all their seven matches. They are churning out the wins.
This run of seven wins in the league has seen them piling the pressure on Manchester City who are in second position, just a point better off. Chelsea, with potential slip-ups ahead, are a couple of wins in front.
Arsenal midfielder, Ramsey said: “We just have to focus on ourselves and believe other teams around us will be on the end of upsets. We just have to try and win every game until the end of the season.
“In this division teams can lose against anyone. We have just got to be switched on and make sure it doesn’t happen to us and maintain this run.”
Wenger said: “We are showing good consistency and it is making it very interesting.”
Had Arsenal had the services of Olivier Giroud for the entire season, things could have turned out different for the Gunners. He was injured for three months from the end of August.
His return of 17 goals in 26 appearances, is helping Arsenal finish the league strongly.
The Arsenal manager believes the French striker has been polished into one of the best strikers in Europe, over the last five years.
He said: “Maybe I should give him a rest at the start of every season! Technically he is a much better player now. That is why he is scoring goals.
“His touch, his link-up play, his finishing, have all improved. If you saw footage of when he first arrived and watch him today it is obvious he is better.
“At 22/23 he played in Division 3 in France and today he is at Arsenal. I believe there is still room for improvement.”
Arsenal FC fans however would be happier with a realistic option of winning the FA Cup and finishing the Barclays Premier League in second spot.
