Cesar Azpilicueta says he would rather have been in FA Cup action this weekend than putting his feet up ahead of Chelsea's Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain
Blues boss Jose Mourinho gave his side a two-day break following their win over West Ham last week.
The west Londoners had won the Capital One Cup final the weekend before the clash with the Hammers, and with no FA Cup tie to prepare for, Mourinho decided to give his side a well-earned rest.
Chelsea were knocked out in the fourth-round of the competition by Bradford in one of the all-time greatest upsets.
And despite it meaning he was given a break before the European showdown with PSG on Wednesday, Azpilicueta insists he'd rather have been in action in the FA Cup.
"I’d actually prefer it if we had been playing for a place in the FA Cup semi-finals at the weekend," the Spaniard said.
"We are used to playing every few days, which we like to do because it means we are in every competition, fighting for trophies. That’s what we want.
"The reality is that we were not able to do this and that gives us a whole week to prepare for the game.
"For an opponent like this (PSG), it is important that your preparations are correct."
Chelsea head into the second-leg with an away goal under their belt following Branislav Ivanovic's header in the 1-1 draw in Paris.
Despite having that advantage, Azpilicueta reckons there is no favourite at Stamford Bridge.
"I’m not sure there is a favourite," he said. "We managed an away goal, which can be important, but I think 1-1 was a fair result in the first game as we dominated the first half but then after half-time they really pushed.
"But now we are back at Stamford Bridge, and we need our great supporters to help us secure qualification."
