Danny Welbeck sent death threats after celebrating goal against Man United

Danny Welbeck has been blitzed with death threats after celebrating scoring the goal that knocked former club Manchester United out of the FA Cup

The 24-year-old star slid the ball into an empty net to give new club Arsenal a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford in Monday’s quarter-final.

But after an exuberant goal celebration that sent 9,000 travelling Arsenal fans into rapture, the striker was the target of a string of vile comments on social media.

One fan wrote: "Danny Welbeck. I will find you and I will kill you."

Another added: "Somebody just KILL Welbeck! Can't stand the a**hole! #RedOrDead #MUFC .”

While yet another alleged United fan posted: "Oh shoot Danny Welbeck. Shouldn't have scored!!!! I HATE YOUUUUUU."

UtdMads wrote: "Welbeck you c*** celebrating. You are so DEAD to me! F***ING JUDAS."

GrandeDeGea said: "Hey Welbeck, when you die, I will celebrate it in front of your family."

Another so-called supporter added: "Hope Welbeck breaks his f****** leg and can't play ever again f****** judas c***.”

Yet some United fans clapped their former star when he was substituted towards the end of the game by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, 65, who bought him for £16million after he was told by United boss Louis van Gaal, 63, he had no future at the club.

One added: "LVG didn't show him any respect by selling him why should he show us any?"

And former players applauded his right to celebrate his goal that sealed a match in which Alex Oxslade-Chamberlain's classy opener for Arsenal had been cancelled our by a fine Wayne Rooney header.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, 37, said: "Brilliant celebration from Welbeck. None of that respect Man Utd fans nonsense."

Ex-Anfield star Jamie Redknapp, 41, added: "I just loved seeing Danny Welbeck celebrate his goal.

"It is a load of tosh when a former player doesn’t celebrate against his old team.

"Goal scoring is why we play/watch/support — and it’s a while since Danny scored one!

"United didn’t want to keep him, he left for Arsenal and here he was back at Old Trafford scoring a predatory winner."

After the match Welbeck, who graduated from United’s football academy, admitted he was still a fan of the Old Trafford club which "means so much to me".

He added: "It's hard to knock them out."
