The Argentine registered his 150th assist in the 2-1 victory over Real Madrid last night
Barcelona took a significant step towards potentially winning La Liga this season with a 2-1 victory over Clasico rivals Real Madrid last night.
Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez proved the match winner for the hosts, with usual main man Lionel Messi having one of his quieter games for the Catalan outfit.
However, the four-time Ballon d’Or winner did provide an assist in the Blaugrana’s victory, crossing for defender Jeremy Mathieu to head home the game’s opening goal.
As can be seen below, this set a significant personal landmark for the Rosario-born star, as it was Messi’s 150th assist for the Camp Nou outfit.
It was also Messi’s 14th La Liga assist of the campaign, keeping the Barcelona man at the top of the personal table; Cristiano Ronaldo is his closest rival with 11 assists.
During Messi’s purple patch since the turn of the year, although he has been scoring at will, his ability to set up goals for the likes of Suarez and Neymar has also been a key aspect of Barcelona’s excellent form.
The victory gives Barca a four-point lead at the top of the La Liga table, with Messi and co still able to win a momentous treble this season.
