Mesut Ozil visited nightclub after missing Arsenal v Newcastle

Mesut Ozil risks incurring the wrath of Arsenal supporters after being spotted visiting a Berlin nightclub hours after missing the Gunners' Premier League win over Newcastle United through illness

The Germany international, who is back in his home country ahead of Wednesday's international friendly against Australia, visited 'The Pearl' nightclub with his marketing staff, according to Bild.

Arsenal still managed to win their fixture at St James' Park, thanks to a four-minute brace from Olivier Giroud, but the fact Ozil visited a nightclub while he was supposedly ill is likely to bemuse the club's fans.

Ozil has been heavily criticised for his performances since joining Arsenal from Real Madrid in a £42.4 million transfer in September 2013.

However, his displays have improved in recent weeks and he deservedly picked up Arsenal's Player of the Month award for February, despite his disappointing display in the Champions League last 16 first leg against AS Monaco.
