Louis van Gaal's problems at Manchester united

Van Gaal's spending last summer is described as 'sloppy' and that's causing a big problem for him at Manchester United now

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf were way ahead of anyone else with claims of Louis van Gaal taking over at Manchester United last year. At times it looked like a PR exercise and De Telegraaf were producing story after story on how and when the then Holland manager would be taking over at Old Trafford. They were right, even down to their claims on the manager's back-room staff, and back then there seemed huge enthusiasm for Van Gaal taking the Old Trafford reigns.

There still is, but now that enthusiasm is somewhat tempered by a reality more rocky than it was supposed to be. Manchester United are in the top four and still in the FA Cup, if they could somehow remain where they are and win the famous old trophy then the campaign would be considered a success, but that's not a given.

De Telegraaf explain in a big feature on Monday that Van Gaal's problems at Manchester United have been his new signings. The Dutch newspaper say that only one of the players brought in during the summer has been a success, and that's Dutchman Daley Blind.

Angel Di Maria is a shadow of the player he was last season, claim the newspaper, Marcos Rojo is said to make weekly errors at the back and Luke Shaw has failed to live up to expectation. Ander Herrera is given a kinder view, with De Telegraaf stating that he's shown some class recently, while Radamel Falcao is said to have hardly made an impression.
