Madrid teammate unhappy with Bale?
A Real Madrid player has reportedly claimed that teammate Gareth Bale does not defend “because he doesn’t want to”
The Welshman has struggled since the turn of the year, with no goals or assists in any of his last eight appearances for Los Blancos, but an unnamed colleague of the former Tottenham star believes his problems lie deeper than the statistics.
“There’s only one Cristiano [Ronaldo],” the source is quoted as saying by Marca.
“Bale is a great player, but he doesn’t win games on his own. He doesn’t defend because he doesn’t want to.”
Bale, once viewed as Cristiano Ronaldo’s natural heir, arrived from Spurs in a world-record €100m deal two summers ago, and made key contributions to Madrid’s triumphs in the Copa del Rey and Champions League last season.
However, perceptions of excessive selfish play and suggestions he is reluctant to embrace Spanish culture have overshadowed his second term at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The winger is also understood to be frustrated with playing on the right wing, rather than the left - hence his lack of confidence and desire to track back.
Nonetheless, Madrid’s players are reportedly unwilling to accept a second player after Ronaldo refusing to carry out defensive duties.
