Mats Hummels will quit Borussia Dortmund for Manchester United in summer

Hummels, 26, is on Louis van Gaal's list of top transfer targets as he bids to shore up his defence

United tried to make a swoop for the Borussia Dortmund centre-back last summer only to fail in their chase.

But the German giants have flopped this season and are likely to miss out on Champions League qualification.

That's served to increase the chances of their top stars leaving.

Bookies SkyBet make it 1/2 that Hummels moves to United when the transfer window reopens.

It's a huge 4/1 that he remains a Dortmund player.

Since Dortmund won the Bundesliga in 2011, they have lost an influential player every summer.

Nuri Sahin, Shinji Kagawa, Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski have all quit in the last four years.

Prized asset Marco Reus was rumoured to be the next to go but he's just signed a new four-year deal to stay.

It's added to the thought that Hummels is the man destined to leave.

The Germany World Cup winner is contracted to Dortmund until 2017 and is valued at around £40m.

Fallen giants Dortmund are eight points off the final Champions League spot with 11 games to go.
