Real Madrid Believe Pepe is Irreplaceable at the Club
Real Madrid believe Pepe is irreplaceable at the Santiago Bernabeu despite the defender moving into the final year of his contract without an extension being agreed
The Portuguese defender missed a month of action for Carlo Ancelotti’s men between January and February, but they’re unbeaten since his return in the 2-0 win over Schalke in the middle of last month.
His no-nonsense style may polarise opinion among fans of the club.
But it appears Madrid want to keep him beyond his current deal – the only stumbling block is the length of the contract he’ll sign.
According to MARCA.com, the European champions have offered him a deal to keep him at the club until 2017.
Yet Pepe believes he is good enough to be kept until 2018.
MARCA’s Jose Felix Diaz wrote:In the club board’s opinion, Pepe is “irreplaceable”. “When Pepe plays, the defence is on another level. His month on the sidelines coincided with the 4-0 defeat at Atlético, which further proved just how much he is missed when he is not around.
Madrid lost Pepe to injury in their Copa del Rey match against Atletico Madrid. He was diagnosed with bruised ribs after an apparently accidental collision with opposition midfielder Raul Garcia
