Two teams set Asian football record and play 17 minutes injury
The Western Sydney Wanderers and Guangzhou Evergrande last night played out 17 minutes of stoppage time, the longest in Asian football history
Western Sydney Wanderers' defence of their Asian Champions League title suffered a setback last night as they lost 3-2 on a dramatic evening.
Evergrande, currently managed former Italian World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro, dominated the game as their Brazilian striker Ricardo Goulart netted a hat-trick.
The current season and recent defeat has been a raw shock to reality for the Wanderers. Having completed the ultimate underdog story by winning the ACL last season, they now find themselves rock bottom of their domestic league.
Yesterday's game will go down in history as both sides played out the longest injury time in Asian football injury at 17 minutes. The delay came from Evergrande Zeng Cheng clashing heads with one of his own defenders in the second half.
Cheng was attempting to claim the ball following a set-piece but inadvertently collided with his defender, causing a sickening clash of heads resulting in concussion and a broken cheekbone.
