His team are 13 points clear and need to beat Crystal Palace to land another title. Should Chelsea complete the feat, however, Jose Mourinho will spend just “five minutes” savouring victory.
The Chelsea boss insists he will then be looking at ways to repel the challenges from his rivals for the crown next season.
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has already targeted Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale and is also in for Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels, PSV’s Memphis Decay and Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne.
Arsenal have Chelsea’s Petr Cech and Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho in their sights. And Manchester City will look to overhaul their strike force with Wolfsburg’s Kevin De Bruyne on their radar.Mourinho is well aware that next he will have his work cut out. He said: “I have to think about next season, yes.
“If we win the title, obviously we’ll have something to do.
“We’ll have the Player of the Season, that club dinner all together.
“Obviously at home it will be a different night, not just one more day at home. Obviously I’m sensible. I’m waiting for that moment.
“But yes, we need to prepare for next season. We need to think about that.
“Normally it’s a flash, the moment that the final finishes or if it’s the game that gives you the league, you have like a flash of the people you love most.“The people who are with you, a little bit of the most important moments that lead to that trophy. It’s like a quick flash. And, with me, five minutes later, move on.”
The title will be Chelsea’s first since 2010 under Carlo Ancelotti. But Mourinho who took the club to their first title in 50 years ten years ago, maintains the trophy and the medal will mean little to him.
He famously threw his medal and jacket into the crowd as he celebrated Chelsea’s victory in 2005 and the Portuguese, rapidly becoming one of the most decorated bosses in world football, said: “I don’t care, really.
“The meaning is the important thing. The feeling, the emotion is what stays forever. I have replicas of every cup I won, and I don’t care about the replicas. Or the medals.
“They’re in my houses. I have some in Portugal, some here, some in my son’s room. I really don’t care.“What stays forever is the feeling, the emotion, the memory of the moment. I have clear in my head every one of these moments I lived.”
“What motivates me are the basic things of football, like when you are a kid you play in the street with your neighbours, three against three, four against four. You want to win.
“The basic thing about football, the most pure feeling, you go there, you want to win. You are in the Championship, you want to win.
“It doesn’t depend on the level you are. To be Champions in the Premier League is not a different feeling to being championship in League One, League Two or the Conference. The happiness. Also the frustrations.
“Everyone has his level, but in terms of human feelings, they’re exactly the same.”
