Manuel Pellegrini: I wouldn't want to be like Jose Mourinho

Manuel Pellegrini insists he would never sacrifice his footballing principles to be like Jose Mourinho

Chelsea can claim Manchester City’s Premier League crown tomorrow and Pellegrini says Mourinho’s men will be deserved champions.

But the City boss says he would never copy Mourinho’s win-at-all-costs style.

“You as a manager have a different way of thinking about what is professional,” he said.

“If you think always for winning game, you can do all that you can, you can do it. I don’t think in the same way. He does what he needs to win.

“I think the most important thing is to win. To win, you have different styles of playing. We won exactly the same as Chelsea did this year in a different way last season, absolutely a different way. So it doesn’t matter the style.

“I don’t criticise him. It is different ways of thinking.

“Every person is different. I don’t think every person must be exactly the same. For me, a big team which has possession of the ball, must try to score more goals, must try always to win.

“Maybe for some managers, it’s more attractive to score goals. Maybe for another manager it’s more attractive not to concede goals. You must ask the fans what they prefer.”
