The presence of Ryan Giggs in the Old Trafford dugout could convince Gareth Bale to quit Real Madrid for Manchester United
Louis van Gaal is targeting the Welsh wizard as the crown jewel of a £150m summer transfer splurge but there are doubts over his desire to quit the Bernabeu.
The former Tottenham forward rejected United in favour of Real two years ago and enjoyed a stunning maiden season winning the Champions League and Copa del Rey.
Bale has suffered an alarming dip in form and has come under-fire from Real fans but his agent insists he is happy at the club.
However, The Sun believe that Giggs' role as United No.2 is likely to sway Bale's decision over his future.
The 25-year-old idolised Giggs, who won 13 Premier League titles during his time at Old Trafford, as a child and the pair have become firm friends.
A swap deal involving David De Gea, seen as the heir to veteran keeper Iker Casillas, has reportedly been ruled out by Real chiefs so United top brass will have to spend in excess of £80m to land their man.
De Gea, 24, has refused to sign the deal as he makes United bosses sweat and will make a decision on his future when the season finishes.
But it seems he has set his heart on joining Spanish giants Real to link-up with Galacticos including Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
Starsport understands De Gea is so keen to join Real that he is willing to accept a less lucrative deal at the Bernabeu.
Real want him to replace legend Iker Casillas but cannot afford to match the terms on offer at United and have put together a contract worth £150,000-a-week.
Signing that deal would cost De Gea almost £12m in lost wages, but will not stop him from pushing through a move to the European champions.
De Gea, who joined United from Atletico Madrid for £18m in 2011, has been one of Louis van Gaal's most consistent and impressive stars this season.
The Dutchman admits United have bent over backwards to keep him, but knows he could be powerless to stop him from returning to Madrid.
De Gea's fiancé, Edurne Garcia, has struggled to settle in Manchester and the pair are set to wed back in Spain next summer.
