Mauricio Pochettino has told Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy he wants to keep Erik Lamela at White Hart Lane
The £30million club-record signing had been earmarked for sale this summer but Pochettino believes his fellow Argentine still has a future at the club, despite a difficult two years since his move from Roma.
Spurs will attempt to off-load four of the seven players they signed after the sale of Gareth Bale in 2013 - with Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and Vlad Chiriches all in the out-tray.
But Lamela, 23, is to survive the cull - despite interest from Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan.
Spurs sporting director Franco Baldini is set to leave the club this summer, with all transfer business now going through recruitment chief Paul Mitchell, Pochettino's ally who was recruited from Southampton in mid-season.
Pochettino will be given the freedom to rebuild Tottenham's squad, with a sizeable net budget of around £30m allocated - he wants to strengthen in central defence and midfield and will also sign a striker to compete with Harry Kane.
There have been misgivings over the size of his transfer fee but Pochettino is convinced the player has settled in London and will prove a major player for the club next season.
Danny Rose will be sold to Manchester City if they meet Tottenham's £15m asking price for the left-back and Spurs will struggle to keep hold of Hugo Lloris if Manchester United or Paris St Germain come in with an offer of over £25m.
