The apocalypse is nigh. Andres Iniesta has just stated that he feels he can no longer produce alongside midfield partner Xavi
“Sometimes I get the feeling that it seems we can’t play together.” Iniesta said while speaking to Marca.
“But it is always a privilege to be by his side because not only does he make your job easier, but he also makes the team work better. Sometimes, as with all players, things don’t work out.
“We have been together for a long time now and the feelings are always very good, though.”
The two have played in the same midfield since the 02-03 season when Iniesta broke into the first team under the tutelage of Louis Van Gaal.
Xavi and Iniesta have always went together in a football fans mind like Yorke and Cole or Giggs and Scholes but it seems of late the chemistry between the pair has simply faded.
Barcelona are now top of La Liga after a number of hiccups in recent weeks has seen Real Madrid fall behind. Xavi and Iniesta have featured in the majority of the Catalan club’s fixtures this season but they haven’t quite performed as well with the pair on the pitch at the same time.
Having claimed two Champions League titles together as part of (aruguably) the greatest team of all time, it is very sad to see these two drifting apart. Here at Pundit HQ, we feel like our parents have just announced they are getting separated
