Xavi has backed Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez to go on making history for Barcelona next season
He said: 'They create chances for themselves. It is not necessary to play 20 or 30 passes as it was before to open teams up, now Neymar can dribble through the defence, or Suarez or Leo or even Andres Iniesta will do something. It now conditions the way we play.'
Xavi also says Cristiano Ronaldo should never have won the Ballon d’Or for 2014.
The Real Madrid forward picked up the award in January and many have attributed the club’s second half of the season collapse to the moment Ronaldo told Leo Messi ‘I’m coming for you’ at the award ceremony, in a reference to him now having three golden balls compared to Messi’s four.
But Xavi said: ‘If you are just giving the award to the best player in the world then [Leo] Messi should always win it and if it’s for the football year that the player has had, then a Spaniard should have won it in 2010 [when Spain won the World Cup] and last year it should have gone to a German player.
'Why did Ronaldo win it when Germany were World Champions? And if it’s not for the year that the player has had; if we are just voting for the best player then it should be Messi and anyone who says otherwise it is because they are a team-mate of Ronaldo’s.
'Anyone who understands football can see that Messi is the one who best dominates both as an individual and a team player.’
Joke of the century. Let me add my own joke, "every footballer should get a recommendation letter from Messi before starting their new seasons on a yearly basis.'
