On-loan Inter Milan forward Lukas Podolski open to Arsenal return

Lukas Podolski has said he could again play for Arsenal after revealing that his Inter Milan agreement does not include an option to sign him permanently

Podolski, 29, has struggled for form since arriving at Inter in January on loan until the end of the season.

The Germany international has yet to open his goal-scoring account, and in early March was named the second-worst Serie A January transfer window signing by Gazzetta Dello Sport.

He has also come under pressure from Inter coach Roberto Mancini, who urged him to do more following his substitution in a loss at home to Fiorentina earlier this month.

Last weekend, Podolski was left on the bench for 90 minutes as Inter drew 2-2 at Napoli.

"He was asked and it was an honest answer," Podolski told Sport Bild of Mancini's criticism of him.

"I know that I have to do more. I work hard every day with the squad and the coaching staff to find my rhythm again and then I am certain that I will help the team with my experience."

However, time is running out for Podolski at Inter, and it is still unclear what the future will bring for the Germany forward.

The former Bayern Munich man revealed that the loan deal "does not include a buy option," just like he had wished for because "you never know what to expect from a loan."

Podolski remains under contract at the Emirates until 2016, and said that "the Arsenal chapter has by no means been closed."

"I still have a year left on my contract and always got along really well with the guys and the fans," the forward said.

"But because I was not allowed to play a lot in my last half year, I needed to try something else. When I retire at one point, I can say that I have played in three top leagues: The Bundesliga, the Premier League and Serie A."
