Harry Kane picked for U-21 squad, Luke Shaw dropped

Southgate picked Tottenham strike star Harry Kane but had to make an 11th hour decision to leave Shaw at home

United boss Loius Van Gaal said his defender was unfit and he wanted him to be rested.

Southgate said: “I’ve spoken to Louis. What is clear is that Luke was keen to come but medically he is not fit.

“We were aware of that. It’s a shame because he has been part of what we have done over the past couple of years. I guess we were always going to lose somebody.”
