Mane Garrincha stadium in Brazil being used as a BUS DEPOT
One of Brazil's World Cup stadiums is being used as a de facto bus depot less than after the 2014 tournament
The Estadio Mane Garrincha in Brasilia cost almost £350million according to official estimates, making it the second most expensive stadium ever constructed – only Wembley cost more.
But since there is no top-flight football team in Brazil's capital city – the biggest local sides rarely attract crowds of over 10,000 – the stadium has never been filled to its 72,000 capacity since the World Cup. In fact, only two friendly games have been staged there so far in 2015.
With so little football on the menu and upkeep costs of around £130,000 per month to cover, the local government have come up with a pioneering way of using the arena: as parking space for Brasilia's buses.
Around 400 vehicles are stored every day at the makeshift garage, while authorities are also making use of office space inside the stadium.
The next big game to be held at the stadium will be Cruzeiro vs Corinthians, in the opening round of the national championship in May.
